Artist/writer James Gurney might be called the tyrannosaurus rex of dinosaur creators; his Dinotopia marked the beginning of a wonderful imaginary dinosaur world. Now he brings us Dinotopia: The World Beneath, in which Arthur Denison and his son, Will, embark on another grand adventure on the lost island continent of Dinotopia, this time entering secret caves and uncovering ancient secrets.
Gurney does for dinosaurs what Tolkien did for hobbits; anyone who loves an old-fashioned tale of magic, mystery, and excitement will be drawn into this book. The tale is perfect for a family read-aloud: Gurney's glorious illustrations adorn every page, while the story roars forward like an Indiana Jones romp. (One caveat: there's too much story here for restless preschoolers; the book is more suitable for school-age children).
