Enlightenment and hope battle the lingering darkness in a man's life in Kathleen Eagle's
Night Falls Like Silk. Thomas Warrior, the artistic prodigy who appeared in Eagle's earlier book, The Night Remembers, has a lucrative career as a graphic novelist thanks to his well-known series starring a male/female character called Victor-Victory. But professional success competes with Thomas' inner demonsdemons he's forced to confront when art dealer Cassandra Findley outbids him for a group of Lakota ledger drawings. The drawings become fodder for Thomas' artistry and the prize for a hidden stalker who believes he's Victor-Victory. When "Victor" kidnaps Cassandra's nephew, the circle of life sends Thomas back to his own family, where he must choose between his older brother Stony and the adoptive parents who rescued him from the streets. Eagle's unique novel blends life's gritty truths with poetic imagery.

Sweetness and light

There's also a chorus of cranky old men who dote on the newsecondwoman in town.
