Jorge Cruise's fitness schedule: 8 minutes, no butts about it
If those extra pounds are adding up, but your free time isn't, Jorge Cruise has the fitness plan for you. As America's most popular online exercise guru, Cruise has helped more than three million people through his Web site www.jorgecruise.com. His new book 8 Minutes in the Morning: A Simple Way to Start Your Day That Burns Fat and Sheds the Pounds is based on his site and features exercises, nutritional menus and motivational tips. "Weight loss for people who don't have time to lose weight" is how he describes his regimen. Cruise recently answered questions for BookPage about his time-saving approach to fitness. How did you become interested in physical fitness? I was a fat kid, and my whole family was unfit too. My dad (who was overweight) was diagnosed with prostate cancer and given one year to live. My sister's weight weakened her self-esteem and inner confidence. So, bottom line: I guess you can say it was "personal pain" -- pain and dissatisfaction drove me to seek solutions. And it was the "pleasure" of seeing myself become physically fit and seeing my dad, sister and grandfather all successfully overcome their weight issues -- this has driven me to help others take control of their bodies. There are hundreds of exercise programs. What makes yours better than all the others? My book is the first one specifically designed for people who don't have time to lose weight. It is based on proven strength training moves that can be done at home. Here is how it works: Each morning you'll just roll out of bed, do two super-quick strength moves, and you are done. Then add in my cutting-edge eating program that shows you how to eat the "right fats" to satiate your hunger, plus a daily dose of motivational support, and I guarantee you will lose two to three pounds each week! Can an individual really become fit by exercising only eight minutes per day? Absolutely. In just eight minutes in the morning, you will lose weight and get fit. The single most important factor that determines how much fat you burn throughout the day (even while you sleep) is the amount of lean muscle tissue in your body. The more lean muscle tissue you have, the more efficiently your body burns fat. Imagine you are a 1969 Volkswagen Bug, but a mechanic has upgraded your engine to a more powerful one, such as the type in a Porsche. Would this stronger engine consume more fuel? You bet! The same is true when you strength train. You create more muscle (a stronger engine) to burn more fat (your fuel). Along with the physical benefits, what emotional benefits does your program offer? I strongly believe that before anyone can lose weight and become physically fit, they first must become "emotionally fit." That is why during my 28-day challenge, I start each day with a "wake-up talk." My daily talks give you what I call a "firm foundation" that sets you up to win. Here's a simple example of how to improve your emotional fitness right now: Get out a pen and paper and write down what you have lost because you haven't been fit. Think about it. What has being fat cost you in your career, your intimate relations, your family and in your self-esteem? Be very honest with yourself. Dissatisfaction can be the spark that moves you forward.
