A Grinch book for big kids and small kids—all sizes!

What's the cause of all this poetic Who-llabaloo? The recently released big-screen version of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Yes, one of the best-known stories of all time has spawned the most expensive movie of the holiday season, as well as a Mt. Crumpet-sized pile of new books from Random House being marketed as tie-ins to the film.

The new Grinch, directed by Ron Howard, weighs in at a whopping $117 million. For this live-action take on the Christmas classic, Jim Carrey dons the red coat of Seuss' anti-Santa. Anthony Hopkins assumes duties as narrator, replacing Boris Karloff, whose precise enunciation turned the story's simple stanzas into spoken poetry in the animated original. The cartoon, which debuted 34 years ago, has been reinvented as a mega-media event.

Random House's group of new Grinch books are fresh takes on the old tale targeted at both children and adult readers. A novelization of the new movie written by Louise Gikow, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! tells the story of the Grinch's childhood in Who-ville and reveals why he hates the yuletide holiday. Narrated by the Grinch himself and accompanied by color photos from the film, this funny, touching story will charm the 8 to 10-year-old crowd. Youngsters will also enjoy Happy Who-liday, Mr. Grinch!, a coloring book featuring the Whos, the Grinch himself and Max, his lovable pooch.

To better acquaint audiences with Seuss' small-hearted grouch, Random House presents Grinch and Bear It: Life According to the Supreme Green Meany, a collection of quotes culled from the new movie that will appeal to readers of all ages. Film buffs will love How the Grinch Stole Hollywood: The Making of the Movie by Andy Lipschultz. The book takes readers behind the scenes for an in-depth look at the crafting of the film. Ingenious costumes, makeup, sets and production shots are all featured.

Finally, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Ornament Punch and Play Book is also part of the season's fare. The book offers eight punch-out Christmas ornaments that are easy to assemble, festive and fun. Thanks to Random House, there are Grinch-y titles for every Who in Who-ville.
