MEET THE AUTHOR: SIDNEY POITIER

Title of your new book:
The Measure of a Man

Describe your book in 50 words or less:
It's about my revisiting the values that governed my life from early childhood to now. Where did they come from, how were they absorbed? Were they woven over centuries? As day to day life unfolded in the semi primitive cultures of my forebearers? How inseparable am I from the values of my father?

How is this book different from your previous autobiography?
My autobiography was simply the story of my life. This book is about how that life connects to the universe. How alike are we. What binds us spiritually -- the universe and me.

What's your favorite part about this book?
The chapter entitled: "The Nature of Opposites."

What's your favorite book? Favorite movie?
Noble House. Casablanca

What has been the pinnacle moment in your life so far?
The recognition of my peers has afforded me such a moment.

Your most aggravating habit?
Hooking my tee shot.

Name one extremely famous person you would like to read your book.
Nelson Mandela

What one thing would you like to learn to do?
Sleep the way I used to when I was seventeen.

What's next on your horizon?
To simply wake up every morning a better person than when I went to bed.

Sidney Poitier is the only African American to win an Academy Award for Best Actor.
